FACULTY SEARCH: Leadership & Congregational Development
Hartford Institute for Religion Research
Hartford Seminary

Hartford Seminary seeks to fill a core faculty position in leadership and congregational development.  The successful candidate will also be appreciatively conversant with social research and practical theology. Specific discipline is open and could include, for example, theology, sociology, history, law, management or one of the arts of ministry.  A Ph.D. or its equivalent is required. Post-doctorate experience will weigh heavily.

Appointment is in the Hartford Institute for Religion Research (HIRR).  Responsibilities include teaching at MA, DMin and PhD levels, pursuing grant-funded initiatives and creating innovative approaches to leadership and congregational development.  Rank is open, but we seek a person with experience in teaching religious leaders, working with congregations, interpreting or translating social research, working collegially, and working across faith traditions.  We seek a published scholar with strong practitioner sensitivities who seeks to integrate leadership, theology and social analysis.   Ordained status is desirable, but not required. Persons of historically underrepresented constituencies are especially encouraged to apply.  Hartford Seminary has a diverse, multi-faith, and ecumenical student body and faculty, and offers considerable opportunities for research and publication.

Applications should include curriculum vitae, names and contacts for three references, and a cover letter explaining interest in the position and why you are a good fit for the position and Hartford Seminary.

Deadline is for applications is October 31, 2008. Preferred starting date is September, 2009. Word-formatted electronic applications are encouraged.
