HEALY, MARY EDWARD | ||||
(1906-1991) A member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet,
Healy received a Ph.D. in sociology from the Catholic University of America in 1948. She
was a member of the faculty of the College of St. Catherine, St. Paul, later its
president, and then became provincial superior of her religious order. President, American
Catholic Sociological Society, 1959. Her research and publications were on social change, which was the subject of her presidential address to the ACSS. Echoing two of her predecessors in the ACSS presidency, Sister Mary Edward called for the study of Catholicism itself. Specifically, she recommended the study of Catholic universities and colleges, their students, the milieu, and the influence of values in their lives. She placed this within the wider scope of social change and Catholic education. Loretta M. Morris |
