VERBIT, MERVIN F. | ||||
(1936-) Received his bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania (1958), and master's (1961) and doctorate (1968) from Columbia University. Founding President (1971-1973) of the Association for the Sociological (now Social Scientific) Study of Jewry, and served later (1977-1980) as Chairman of the Editorial Board of its journal, Contemporary Jewry . From 1977 to 1979, he was a contributing editor for Review of Religious Research , and since 1990, a member of the Wilstein Institute for Jewish Policy Studies' Advisory Board. His writings focus on contemporary Jewish life, with special emphasis on the structure and substance of Jewish identity, particularly among American university students. J. Alan Winter |
