Previous positions: Presbyterian Church, U.S. (research, 1973-1975) and Union Theological Seminary (development, 1987-1991). President, Religious Research Association, 1993-1994. Lecturer and author. Born in Iowa; awarded B.A., 1953, and honorary doctorate in humanities, 1979, Central College (Pella, Iowa); married (since 1953) to Donald W. Shriver, Jr., President Emeritus of Union Theological Seminary; awarded Union Medal, 1991.
