WAXMAN, CHAIM I.

(1941-) Earned his B.A. (1963) and master's of Hebrew Literature (1966) from Yeshiva University, and his master's (1965) and doctorate (1974) in sociology from the New School for Social Research; President, Association for the Social Scientific Study of Jewry, 1979-1981.

Waxman has conducted sociological studies of Jews in the United States (Waxman 1983) and Israel (Waxman 1994) and of immigrants from the United States to Israel (Waxman 1989). He has written on both religious and ethnic aspects of Jewish identity as well as on Jewish family life. He has served as editor (1993-) of Israel Studies Bulletin and on the editorial boards (1991-) of the Journal of Israel Studies and Contemporary Jewry (1987-).
