RELIGION

This quarterly now subtitles itself An International Journal . When originally founded at the end of the 1960s, however, its subtitle was Journal of Religion and the Religions . Describing its provenance as the "Northern British Universities," it was part of the movement (particularly associated with Ninian Smart) to extend theology to religious studies, to expand such study from the ancient British universities to the new, and to include current experience as well as historical texts. Thus, although thoroughly international now, its editors and editorial board still maintain a notable input particularly from the University of Lancaster.
