NASON-CLARK, NANCY

(1956-) Professor of Sociology, University of New Brunswick (Canada), where she has taught since receiving her Ph.D. in 1984 from the London School of Economics under Eileen Barker. President, Association for the Sociology of Religion, 1999.

Nason-Clark's dissertation research and early publications focused on the ordination of women controversy in the Church of England. More recently, her focus has turned to abusive relationships especially within religious contexts, as witnessed, for example, in her book Shattered Silence: Wife Abuse and Contemporary Christianity (Westminster 1997). She has held offices in all three North American professional societies in the social scientific study of religion.
